General Information

Dress Code 2011-12 We require that students wear proper dance attire. There are practical as well as aesthetic reasons for this. Body alignment is critical in dance and the instructors must be able to see the alignment of the students body from the head down. (Oversized t-shirts are a hindrance) Long hair worn down is obstructive and is also a risk for injury. A bun is preferred for all levels of ballet and a pony tail for all other forms of dance. Students that do not adhere to dress code may be asked to observe rather than participate in class. Please write your child's name in his/her shoes and other dance attire.
We sell the required shoes and dancewear for all classes.

TUITION AND FEES

Tuition for lessons at Jo Ann Neal Dance Studio is an annual fee, which is paid on the first lesson of each month. The annual fee is based on the number of hours of study each week. As the number of hours per week increases, the overall hourly rate decreases. The monthly rate is based on the total number of hours of weekly study for all members of a family who are enrolled. Each class is guaranteed to meet at least 36 times during the school year (August 17 th through May). Should any class meet less than 36 times due to bad weather, etc., make-up classes will be scheduled. August tuition is pro-rated and figured into the overall rate.  Holidays are not figured in the 36 lessons. Each month is different, depending on the day of the week that your child comes to class. Some months have 3 lessons and other months will have 5. It does not matter which day your child comes to class, by the end of the year they will have come to at least 36 classes. Everything balances out over the year. Absences may be made up with a similar class within 1 month of missed class. Please check with your child's instructor for her recommendation. NO REFUNDS OR REDUCTIONS FOR MISSED CLASSES

WITHDRAWAL - Withdrawal notification must be made in writing and a 2 week notice given. When you register for dance you are signing up for the entire semester. We feel that you should allow an adequate time frame to assess the value of dance lessons. It is very important for children to learn the value of commitment of finishing what they start. We realize that certain circumstances may occur where it is impossible to continue dance classes, but then a parent fizzles out because of inconvenience they are teaching a child to rationalize quitting. Many of our classes fill up at the beginning of the year and potential students are turned away. If you drop out before the end of the semester, we may not be able to fill the vacancies. If you find that you must withdraw before the end of the year, you need to give a 2 week written notice to the office. Please do not leave a message on the answering machine or tell the teacher you are withdrawing. We have a withdrawal card that you can fill out at the front office. If a 2 week written notice is not received, you will be obligated to pay for the next month's tuition.
RECITAL
Annual recitals are held at the end of each year. All students are encouraged to participate. This involves learning a routine, purchasing a costume and paying a recital fee. The costume fees are due October 1st. The recital fee (due March 1st) is $40.00 per family. We do not sell tickets. The recital fee enables you to invite as many guests as you wish. The recital is a wonderful experience for all and gives the student the opportunity to show the value of dance lessons and have the experience of performing on stage.
